In April 2018, the IEEE SA Corporate Advisory Group (CAG) gathered with experts from leading entities from Shenzhen, People’s Republic of China.
On 16 April, IEEE SA held a bilateral meeting with Shenzhen Institute of Standards and Technology (SIST), after which IEEE SA President F. Donald Wright and Wen Zhou, President of SIST, signed a Memorandum of Understanding covering active cooperation and promotion of international standardization efforts between these two organizations. A media interview was conducted. The signing ceremony and interview received press coverage from community-based outlets such as DUTE owned by Shenzhen Special Zone Daily, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily, and Daily Sunshine.
Following the signing and ceremony, the IEEE-SIST Workshop on Emerging Technology Standardization attracted 80+ professionals who learned about services provided by SIST and polices of the Shenzhen Municipal Government that encourage local industries to participate in international standardization activities. Attendees also heard from experts regarding IEEE’s standardization work on emerging technologies such as digital inclusion, intelligent manufacturing, artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning and Cloud/Fog/Edge Computing.
On 17 April, 20 attendees from 11 participating entities dialogued with CAG members during the IEEE SA CAG Chair’s Roundtable. Participating entities included: Huawei, ZTE, CESI, EVOC, Anhui Onesky, CRRC_Zhuzhou, Tencent, UBTech Robotics, Pingan, China Electronic Product Reliability and Environmental Research Institute, and SIST. Attendees received an overview of IEEE SA, as well as an understanding of how to create that network by developing a self-driven standardization community in China, as part of global standards community of IEEE. IEEE SA also shared its plans for offering a platform for standards development projects to utilize open source.
The Roundtable was followed by the IEEE SA/Tencent workshop, which attracted 360 persons online for live broadcast within the Tencent internal live show platform. An additional 20 onsite attendees took part in hot discussions regarding standards development procedures.
