The selection of transformers for conformance testing, the basis for conformance, and the treatment of failures within a test sequence are covered. Impulse, voltage-withstand, accuracy, and temperature rise are specified. Insulation systems acceptance and production monitoring are considered

To assist in the proper selection of Instrument Transformers this standard defines requirements for performance and interchangeability. Safety precautions are also addressed. This standard defines certain electrical, dimensional, and mechanical characteristics, and takes into consideration certain safety features of current and inductively coupled voltage transformers of types generally used in the measurement of electricity and the control. This standard defines the requirements for Class 1 instrument transformers. For instrument transformers of a nominal system voltage of 115 kV and above if Class 2 is required refer to IEEE Std C57.13.5(TM).

The test code covers measurement and calculation of ratio and phase angle, demagnetization, impedance and excitation measurements, polarity determination, resistance measurements, short-time characteristics, temperature rise tests, dielectric tests, and measurement of open-circuit voltage of current transformers.

American National Standard Conformance Test Procedures for Instrument Transformers
The purpose of this standard is to cover conformance test requirements for current and inductively coupled voltage transformers used for measurement and control functions in unit substations at primary system voltages above 600 V, but not exceeding 38 kV. The report describes relevant performance tests to demonstrate compliance with the applicable standards. The test specimen is normally subjected to all planned routine tests prior to the initiation of the conformance test program.
These standards have been removed from active status through a ballot where the standard is made inactive as a consensus decision of a balloting group.
