IEEE and Ecuadorian Standardization Service (INEN) Sign Agreement to Translate and Distribute IEEE Standards in Ecuador

PISCATAWAY, NJ, 13 September 2017 – IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity, and the Ecuadorian Service for Standardization (INEN) today announced the signing of a standards adoption agreement to utilize IEEE standards in Ecuador. The agreement establishes a cooperative arrangement between IEEE and INEN, and ensures that the globally accepted standards of the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) are translated and distributed nationally to support Ecuadorian industry growth and development.

“The agreement between IEEE and INEN represents a milestone achievement in that it is the first of its kind in South America, and it will have a marked impact on Ecuadorian industry’s ability to more quickly and effectively employ globally-recognized, technical standards addressing a wide range of market sectors,” said Konstantinos Karachalios, managing director for the IEEE SA. “This cooperative arrangement will directly benefit engineers and technologists working in Ecuador by providing easy access to accepted global standards, also saving them time and effort to focus more directly on their particular areas of expertise.”

As part of its ongoing global outreach and activity program, IEEE has been increasing activity in South America and proactively engaging governing national standards organizations in order to increase awareness and demonstrate the benefit of adopting IEEE standards. The IEEE standards adoption agreement with INEN comes under the support of the Ecuadorian Ministry of Industry and Productivity (MIPRO).

“INEN recognizes the importance standardization plays in advancing technology and contributing to the growth and development of Ecuador’s productive sectors such as energy, education, healthcare, sustainable urban projects, and much more,” said Fuad Tutillo, INEN Director of Standardization. “The standards adoption agreement with IEEE falls in line with INEN’s vision for streamlining the use of global standards, and we anticipate a good deal of positive progress as we distribute these new standards and work together with MIPRO to achieve a new vision for Ecuadorian productivity and economic growth.”
