This part of 82079 International Standard provides principles and general requirements for information for the use of products. Information for use is: necessary for the safe use of a product; helpful for the efficient and effective use of a product; and often necessary to fulfill market, legal, and regulatory obligations. Information for use of products applies to phases of the product life cycle such as transport, assembly, installation, commissioning, operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, decommissioning, and disposal, and the appropriate tasks performed by skilled and unskilled persons. This document provides the common and fundamental aspects serving as the binding and generic framework for prospective additional parts of this document. This document applies to information for use whether provided as electronic or printed information products. This document is intended for use by all parties responsible for or involved in the conceptualization, creation, maintenance, translation, localization, integration of content, production, provision and evaluation, acquisition and supply of information for use. The aim of this document is to provide these parties with the common and fundamental basis for developing information for use of supported products of the required quality. This document is intended to be applied and referenced in product-specific standards, including those that specify the content of information for use of those products, for example, IEC 60335 for all parts for household electrical products, ISO 20607* for machinery, and ISO/IEC 26514 for systems and software. It is intended as a basis to elaborate product specific requirements for target audiences or product information. * Under preparation. Stage at the time of publication: ISO/DIS 20607:2018. This horizontal standard is primarily intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC Guide 108. One of the responsibilities of a technical committee is, wherever applicable, to make use of horizontal standards in the preparation of its publications. The contents of this horizontal standard will not apply unless specifically referred to or included in the relevant publications.

Preparation of information for use (instructions for use) of products--Part 2: Assembly of self-assembly products
IEC/IEEEE 82079-1, Preparation of information for use (instructions for use) of products--Part 1: Principles and general requirements, provides general and comprehensive requirements for the structure, format, and content of all kinds of information for use (Instructions for use). This Part 2 of IEEE/IEC 82079 provides additional and more specific requirements and guidance for preparing instructions for the assembly or installation of self-assembly products. The resulting instructions are intended to be used by persons without specific training or experience, who are performing the assembly without the assistance of a skilled or trained person. The instructions can assist non-skilled persons to anticipate or perceive risks during assembly and to avoid creating hazards by mis-assembly. nnHowever, self-assembly instructions cannot compensate for product designs that are inherently unsafe, too complex, or too demanding of specialized skills for the intended target audience. nnThis document extends IEC/IEEE 82079-1 with requirements and guidance of particular importance in preparing information for use in self-assembly of products by unskilled persons:n* Presenting safety-critical information, especially for electrical and cabling connections;n* Accommodating unskilled assemblers though choice of terminology, graphics conventions, and use of tools;n* Formatting illustrations for easier comprehension by non-skilled users;n* Evaluating the usability of instructions for self-assembly of products.nnSelf-assembly products can be consumer products, including products assembled by adults for themselves or for children, as well as products to be used in the workplace. Self-assembly can involve the following situations: n* Assembly of a kit of component parts, which can be used in alternative configurations or attached to existing products or fixtures;n* Configuration or building of products with structural elements requiring folding, locking, or tensioning;n* Disassembly or deinstallation of products for subsequent reassembly, reuse, or disposal.nnAlthough the principles and guidance presented in this document can be applied to improve any kind of instructions for use, this document does not apply specifically to instructions supporting the following:n* Products intended for assembly only by someone professionally qualified or skilled in assembling such products (e.g. an electrician or wind turbine installer);n* Products intended for assembly only by persons trained in that assembly by a manufacturer, supplier, or employer;n* Components or materials supplied in combinations and quantities specified by the customer; n* Multiple identical kits supplied in batches for professional assembly and commercial sale as an assembled product.

ISO/IEC/IEEE International Standard -- Systems and software engineering - Content of life-cycle information items (documentation)
The purpose and content of all identified systems and software life cycle and service management information items (documentation) are specified in this document. The information item contents are defined according to generic document types (description, plan, policy, procedure, report, request, and specification) and the specific purpose of the document. This document provides a mapping of ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288:2015 and ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207:2017 clauses with a set of information items. This document identifies records and information items based on analysis of references in ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288:2015 and ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207:2017, which in some cases provide partial or complete outlines for the content of specific documents. Information items may be combined or subdivided as needed for project or organizational purposes.
These standards have been replaced with a revised version of the standard, or by a compilation of the original active standard and all its existing amendments, corrigenda, and errata.

ISO/IEC/IEEE Systems and software engineering -- Content of life-cycle information products (documentation)
ISO/IEC/IEEE 15289:2011 provides requirements for identifying and planning the specific information items (information products, documentation) to be developed and revised during systems and software life cycles and service processes. It specifies the purpose and content of all identified systems and software data records and life cycle information items, as well as records and information items for information technology service management. The information item contents are defined according to generic document types (description, plan, policy, procedure, report, request, and specification) and the specific purpose of the document. For simplicity of reference, each information item is described as if it were published as a separate document. However, information items may be unpublished but available in a repository for reference, divided into separate documents or volumes, or combined with other information items into one document. ISO/IEC/IEEE 15289:2011 is based on the life cycle processes specified in ISO/IEC 12207:2008 (IEEE Std 12207-2008) and ISO/IEC 15288:2008 (IEEE Std 15288-2008), and the service management processes specified in ISO/IEC 20000-1:2005 and ISO/IEC 20000-2:2005.

ISO/IEC/IEEE International Standard Systems and software engineering -- Content of life-cycle information items (documentation)
The purpose and content of all identified systems and software life cycle and service management information items (documentation) are specified in this standard. The information item contents are defined according to generic document types, as presented in Clause 7, and the specific purpose of the document (Clause 10). This International Standard provides a mapping of ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, ISO/IEC 12207:2008 (IEEE Std 12207-2008), ISO/IEC 20000-1:2011 (IEEE Std 20000-1:2013), and ISO/IEC 20000-2 (IEEE Std 20000-2:2013) clauses with a set of information items. This International Standard identifies records and information items based on analysis of references in ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, ISO/IEC 12207:2008 (IEEE Std 12207-2008), ISO/IEC 20000-1:2011 (IEEE Std 20000-1:2013) and ISO/IEC 20000-2:2012 (IEEE 20000-2:2013), which in some cases provide partial or complete outlines for the content of specific documents. However, the requirements for the life-cycle processes do not uniquely and unambiguously state the requirements for the information items contents or the information needed by a user of an information item. Moreover, the information from the life-cycle processes may overlap or may be created and revised at different times. In short, the analyzed references do not result in a logically complete list of information items.
