10BASE-T1S: The next big step toward the All-Ethernet-Vehicle

10BASE-T1S, also called 10SPE (10 Mbps Single Pair Ethernet), is a new network technology currently under specification of IEEE 802.3cg™. The objective of the technology is to get a collision free, deterministic transmission on a multi-drop network, which can be used in applications using CAN, CAN-FD, FlexRay or 100BASE-T1 today. The Physical Layer Collision Avoidance (PLCA) implemented allows utilization of the entire bandwidth of 10 Mbps. It also supports an arbitration scheme guaranteeing each node access to the media within a deterministic time.

Martin Miller of Microchip Technology Inc. will present sensor use cases as they exist today in Advanced Driver-assistance Systems (ADAS) applications and cases envisioned for future autonomous vehicles at the 2018 IEEE Ethernet & IP @ Automotive Technology Day.

Attendees will learn:

  • Technical characteristics of 10BASE-T1S, with special attention to the multi-drop feature of 10BASE-T1S that allows the usage of a single bus-line to connect sensors and ECUs
  • How 10BASE-T1S optimizes cabling and connection, reducing the number of PHYs, connector pins and switch ports
  • How time-critical data and best effort data are transmitted over the network meeting deterministic requirements
  • Latency characteristics will be calculated and matched to the outlined sensor use cases.

The presentation will take place on Wednesday, 10 October 2018 at 9 a.m. GMT in the Auditorium. As a Gold Exhibitor at the 2018 IEEE Ethernet & IP @ Automotive Technology Day, Microchip will also demonstrate next-generation networking in booth 14.
