IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) offered a number of programs in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada over the last half of 2016 to share its activities in a number of new or emerging technology fields. In August, as part of an outreach program of the IEEE SA Corporate Advisory Group, two special events were conducted. The first was a half-day workshop on 5G, where over 100 attendees learned about sustainable spectrum management, the tactile internet, and Radio Frequency semiconductors for 5G. An interactive panel also explored the future of 5G and standardization. The second event was a half-day open-source symposium, discussing licenses, Service Oriented Architectures, and use cases. A panel discussion discussed whether open source and standards could co-exist, a topic of great interest to the attendees.
In October, the IEEE SA offered a workshop on the Smart Grid Standards Landscape, covering topics like transactive energy, synchrophasor standards, and a panel on the future of the Smart Grid, as part of the IEEE Electric Power and Energy Conference. The invitation to participate in this conference was a direct result of the positive reception for the IEEE SA August events. IEEE SA continues to enhance its connections in Canada. Supporting events to share standards subjects of interest helps to build strong relationships with standards developers and engineers in Canada. Learn more about IEEE Smart Grid standards.
