A workshop entitled “Innovation in Technology Standards Setting,” sponsored by IEEE SA and hosted by China Electronics Standardization Institute (CESI), was held in Beijing. The workshop aimed to identify new opportunities in China’s standardization reform and to explore ways for standards innovation and development in China, especially in AI and open source. IEEE SA President Don Wright stressed that future areas of opportunity will be smart materials, big data, networking, 5G, and other emerging areas, and hopefully IEEE together with CESI will create vital standards in these areas.
At the workshop, CESI President Zhao Bo and Wright signed a Memorandum of Understanding covering active cooperation and promotion of international standardization efforts between these two organizations.
