Spanish language edition of the 2017 NESC Handbook available now, with Spanish eLearning Modules soon to be available online; Chinese Mandarin selected for next translations

PISCATAWAY, NJ, 18 Oct. 2018 – IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity, and the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA), today announced the availability of the Spanish language edition of the 2017 NESC Handbook as part of a global initiative to share best electrical safety practices and procedures more broadly around the world. The Spanish language edition of the NESC Handbook displays the Code’s regulatory content in English, while all the commentary from experts and historical references have been translated to Spanish. Chinese Mandarin has been selected for the next translation of the NESC Handbook and ancillary online educational resources.

IEEE SA Standards Education has also announced it has undertaken the translation of seven eLearning modules in support of expanding access to the NESC content and furthering the utilization of the handbook’s referenced standards. The Spanish language eLearning modules are scheduled to be available in the next few months through the IEEE Xplore digital library and include the following titles:

“As part of our global effort to work cooperatively with foreign national electrical bodies, regulatory committees and utilities, it’s become clear that there is a real desire to utilize the NESC as a reference for electrical safety standard development around the world,” said Norman Shaw, IEEE SA’s director of new business and product development, Business Development and Alliance Management. “The Spanish translation of the NESC Handbook and eLearning modules represents the first step in our efforts to share the most up-to-date content in users’ native language that will bolster electrical safety across a broad range of application and deployment scenarios.”

“In addition to our effort to be more proactively engaged with our industry partners and the regulatory community as we work towards the next NESC publication, we’ve also seen growing interest from international stakeholders to utilize the NESC as a reference in their countries,” said Nelson Bingel, chair, NESC. “We’ve been encouraged by the level of input to the code that has helped us stay abreast of emerging technologies in a rapidly changing landscape, and our effort to reach out globally supports an overarching goal to promote and share comprehensive electrical safety principles as broadly as possible.”

The Spanish language version of the 2017 NESC Handbook is available for purchase at the IEEE Standards Store. To stay informed of NESC activities, subscribe to NESC news and updates at the bottom of the NESC home page.
